Peanut Blossom Cookies

Peanut Blossoms!

I am happy to report a WHITE CHRISTMAS!! The weather man was actually right and has made this Christmas that much more special!

I love Christmas morning where you stay in your pajamas a little extra longer and stay inside all day playing with all your new things! And there is good food all day long! Our tradition starts with a normal breakfast with a homemade breakfast bread and other favorites but is followed by a special brunch cooked by my mom! And of course there is a dinner that is fancy enough that we move from the kitchen table to the dining room table with our festive table decorations.

Although Santa has come and gone I thought I would continue to add to our annual Christmas cookie list! Next up is the peanut blossom! This is Jordan’s favorite cookie because he is the biggest fan of peanut butter! My nephew Ethan was here during the cookie baking extravaganza and these seemed to catch his eye just as much as Jordan’s but perhaps for a different reason. He picked this as his one cookie to taste and went straight for the hershey kiss! When he was done there was a perfect peanut butter cookie with a small dent in the middle and a chocolate missing! He’s a pretty smart little guy if you ask me! So as you can see these are a MUST to make for all to enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll need:

(From Hershey’s cook book. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.)

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Hershey’s Kisses

First mix together the peanut butter and butter, followed by the granulated and brown sugars. Cream this together until it is light and fluffy. Add in the egg, milk and vanilla and beat well until everything comes together. Your dry ingredients can be added next by adding the baking soda, salt and flour and mix after each is added. Be sure to add the flour a little bit at a time (maybe 1/2 cup at a time) so you don’t have a flour explosion when you turn the mixer on! Blend everything really well until you have a consistent dough that smells deliciously of peanut butter!

(Preheat the oven to 375.) Shape the dough into 1 inch balls and then take a smaller bowl of granulated sugar and roll the ball of dough around in the sugar. Make sure to fully cover the dough so as not to skimp the cookie or the cookie eater! Place the sugared dough ball on a baking sheet and bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes. The cookie should start to get lightly browned and then you’ll know it’s time to take them out. You also may find people wandering into the kitchen searching for what is making the house smell so delicious! While your cookies bake go ahead and unwrap enough Hershey’s Kisses to place on top of each cookie.

Once the cookies are out of the oven, immediately place an unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss on top of each cookie. Press down a little bit and the cookie will flatten and form little cracks around the edge. You can then remove the cookies from the baking sheet and allow them to completely cool on a cooling rack.

These cookies are a classic in our Christmas cookie repertoire but they are honestly wonderful all year round! Wether it be for the love of peanut butter or the love of chocolate, it has a little bit of both to please everyone!! For now, that’s peanut blossom cookies…in the shell of a nut!
